I wanted this piece to honor the memory of my father as well as to reflect on the parts of nature that sometimes get overlooked. My father was one who always had a love for enjoying the simple things, especially when it came to the outdoors. He never wasted time on materialistic objects or anything superficial. That is why when it came to approaching the cycles of nature, I wanted to focus on the weeds and old tree stumps are often uprooted or disregarded by the public, but they still have a beauty of there own.

Your colors are working so much better in this piece. I like how the baby picture is standing out from the rest of the image.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the upper right of the piece, everything sits well together and the colors are very fun. but all the white to the left, is pretty distracting to me. I assume that it is part of the concept to leave that area blank, but i think it would've helped to bring the plants or road over just a little bit farther.
ReplyDeleteYou've done a really good job piecing all the pictures together so they form a coherent image. I like the choice to add another picture of your dad in the tree itself.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love the smoky ephemeral look to some of the tree pictures. I think it is tying together nicely for you. I'm not digging the second picture in the tree branches...how does it look without it?
ReplyDeleteThis is a striking piece of art, but my brain keeps jumping between the feathered edges and the sharp ones. This was most likely intentional, but it distracts me from the other elements all the same.
ReplyDeleteI see you've been making a lot of subtle changes to your first image of flowers and pictures of your dad. I really like your idea and composition ... From the image alone, I'm still a little unclear about the meaning you are going for and maybe you could experiment with enhancing that some. Overall, great job!
ReplyDeleteI love how you faded the photo of your dad as a toddler, it gives it a fleeting urgency which we can all relate to (we grow up fast). The colors of the trees are beautiful and the edges of the photos work very well. Maybe you don't even need to fade them out? But if you like it I say go for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out if you are going to leave the white space. If you did add something in the white space, it would change the composition, which think works well already. The composition of the weeds emerging behind the baby picture is working great. I really like the fractured space in the weeds. I think the way you incorporated the baby picture is great.
ReplyDeleteI think the image is working fine, except the child's foot. Really it seems pretty resolved as an image except that one part, which as the focal point is fair game because you want us to look there. Other than that not much to add to what I said or talked about in class, I love the improvements you have made. Try working on the foot.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good and I actually really like the white space. The only thing I would change is bringing the figure in a little more to the left because he's a little close to the edge.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your color pallet it really does remind me of you and your metals work. Very nice
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful image. I really appreciate the simplicity of it, even though there's raelly a lot going on, visually and conceptually. The colors all compliment each other well and I'm enjoying the variation of edges you've created, between the foggy feathered edges and the sharp crisp ones. The feathered edges remind me of something that is sort of surreal or dream like, which is quite haunting and thought-provoking. I also enjoy the fact the shape of it seems to be growing upwards from the child, almost like the child is the root of the tree.
ReplyDeleteOne last thing, I really appreciate that you're bringing attention to the not-so-perfect/decaying aspects of nature. They're truely beautiful and that concept really resonates with me.
Thank you so much for your comment. That was everything I was hoping to accomplish through this piece, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteGreat idea, I'm interested in seeing how you are planning on composing these images together. Keep contrast and alignment in mind when you're doing it.
