Where I'm headed: I want to bring childhood pictures of my dad into this piece. The three year anniversary of his death is coming up and for me, the memory of him ties into appreciating what is around us, even if it is just a weed. Therefore I am also trying to incorporate weeds and rotten wood into this piece, but make it all into one beautiful landscape.

I enjoy the colors and textures you are using
ReplyDeleteI love the idea and would like to see more pictures of your dad in this so it's not so overcome with trees and plants.
ReplyDeleteThe composite images is working out well, the colors are all very striking.
ReplyDeleteI think your concept works very well. I also think the color exploration is working well. I'd like to see how the image develops more.
ReplyDeleteoh man, I really love this so far. The image of your dad with the colors and collaged look of the plants are really complimenting each other. I look forward to seeing more images of your dad in there. It feels somewhat playful but also very thought provoking and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great start! It's interesting to see this after seeing the other piece you created for your dad last semester. The colors and concept are similar, but they both have a connection to something important to you and it really comes through in the work.
ReplyDeletethis is looking great so far. Im very interested to see how it turns out. how will you merge the landscape and the figure? i think having images of your dad at different ages would also help with the passing of time concept.
ReplyDeleteI think your concept is solid and it brings a whole new meaning to your image, I am excited to see how you will resolve your image at the end. Also, I like how you are also considering the not so pretty aspects of nature into your concept, I think a lot of people forget to include these things when asked about nature in general.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would like to see the top arrangement more integrated with your bottom photograph somehow.
Hi Audrey
ReplyDeleteI love that you are open to inventing your own space. Compositionally it is starting to come together. Could the rectangles you are creating by layering be more random looking? less aligned and perfect with the picture plane. This suggests stability which life is anything but sometimes. Not seeing the weeds and rotten wood yet, maybe have not gotten to this part yet? Seems like a transition between life and death still needs to occur, but you have a nice structure for doing this.
I know the subject is very difficult for you, this is something that you never get over, we just learn to live with it. Art can be a catharsis experience and i hope this series is for you.
The child juxtaposed with the images are interesting. More universal than an image of someone we do not know or care about. Not sure the street in the background is needed. It seems uninteresting right now. remember all images are just points of departure, bits and pieces to collage into a new whole.
I love how personal you made this concept. I would really like to see more imagery of your father, and things that can be associated to his memory.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your concept. I'm wondering if you're planning to incorporate more pictures of your dad into the top half of the canvas. The compositing and color transitions you did are working well. I think you could experiment with sewing together the tree and figure pictures more to try and make everything more unified.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite so far is the second one you have. The boxes/photos are solid and hold purpose. I think once you introduce fading in and out, you are left with awkward blank spaces between images. I love how everything pulls the focus onto the photo of your dad as a child and it almost seems like he is remembering that setting by looking at the dandelion. I can't wait to see your next version.
